THE ASSOCIATION

Nouvelles des Horizons, was created in January 2019 by 19 founding members.

Our mission : contributing in awakening the will to act for a society closer to the Nature and more respectful of the Living.

Our means of actions : to disseminate as widely as possible our web documentary News from the Horizons, the exploration around Humans and Earth, and to share our inspirations with our community.

OUR MENTOR

Philosopher and professor at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland), he is the author of Une nouvelle Terre, (A new Earth). He also cofounded the review La Pensée Ecologique (Ecological Thinking) and use to chair the scientific board of the Nature and Men Foundation. Dominique Bourg advocates for a deep paradigm change and an end-to-end ecology. According to him, without a radical shift, the livability of the Earth is threatened. He supports us in our intellectual path.

THE LIVING,

HEART OF THE PROJECT

Our conviction is that all the issues of our century, whether they are social, economical, political or ecological, are interconnected. And that they have the same cause : we have forgotten that we belong to the Nature and that we are bonded with the rest of the Living.

While deepening this idea, we discovered that all over the planet, women and men are experimenting relations with living beings far from ours ans that it impacts deeply their perception of the world. To explore and to understand their wisdoms and knowledges seem essential to rethink our way of life.

THE WEB DOCUMENTARY THE EYES, THE EARS

AND THE VOICE OF NEWS FROM THE HORIZONS

With our web documentary, we wish to show how other women and men live and maintain their connection with Nature and other living beings. At the same time, we offer them an opportunity to share with us their keys to these alternatives. We will choose these witnesses for a particular expertise, which could come from their job (biologist, forest ranger), their way of life (shepherd, sailor), their philosophy (spiritual guide, artist), etc. ... We will also look for them in different forms of society: from the most modern, such as ours, to the most traditional, among indigenous people who have preserved their ancestors' way of life.

AN END-TO-END ENVIRONMENTAL APPROACH :

THE BODY OF THE EXPLORATION

To remain consistent with our convictions and to limit our exploration's ecological impact, we adopted a complete environmental approach:

_ with our transportations: collective and low carbon

_ with our equipments: minimalist, versatile and resilient

_ with our shooting locations: a constant compromise between accessibility through land and sea, security and distance.

THE STAGES

The steps of the web documentary are covering Asia, Africa and Each will be the occasion to meet an environmental experts' whether they have a western background our one of another sort.

THE CARBON FOOTPRINT

We are also experimenting ways to measure our ecological footprint. We have set a ceiling for CO2 emissions based on our 2018 personal carbon footprint. For example, Benjamin emitted 6,400 kg CO2 equivalent that year *. This commitment allows us to control that the environmental impact of News from the Horizons will not exceed our usual carbon footprint. In total, the carbon footprint of the project from September 2019 is estimated at 25,600 kg CO2 equivalent.

* according to the methodology of the Association Avenir Climatique

THE ITINERARY

To stay below the carbon budget allocated to the project, the most sober transportation means are favored to reach the different stages of the exploration: trains, local public transportation for the land parts, sail and the cargo-hitchhike for the sea crossings. We will be equipped to be in complete autonomy (backpack and bivouac equipment).
